How Compa Offers matches your jobs

Matching your jobs

The fundamental building blocks of apples-to-apples compensation market data are job, level, and location. Compa’s advanced matching technology also auto-detects skills and current company.

Compa has a canonical, standard career architecture that’s easy to connect to. Unlike traditional surveys, with Compa:

  • There are no annual submissions

  • Niche jobs relevant to your industry are included

  • Our comp experts match your jobs for you

  • Your jobs stay matched automatically

Job & level

Compa matches your jobs to our standard job architecture, including job, level, and career stream:

  • Job, e.g., Software Engineering, Sales Management, Data Science

  • Level, e.g., P2, P3, M2, M3

  • Career Stream, e.g., Professional, Management

The source of data is the job data in your applicant tracking system (ATS). At a minimum, Compa uses the job titles from your job requisition postings, but typically factors in multiple sources of data, including fields connected in your ATS to your HCM.

Examples include:

  • Job posting titles

  • Job codes

  • Job profiles

  • Job families

  • Job levels

During onboarding, a Compa compensation expert matches your jobs to our standard job architecture. If you participate in compensation surveys, you can share your job matching key with Compa to strengthen the matching process. We will schedule time with you to review your matches for accuracy.

Once the matches are made, Compa’s algorithm reads the data fields from your ATS to automatically maintain matches going forward.

It’s easy to maintain your job matches, including changing matches or adding missing ones. Within Compa Offers you'll be able to view and edit all of your job matches. Additionally, Compa can automatically detect missing job matches and recommend the best match, getting smarter over time.

Location

Compa uses offer locations to accurately match currency and provide insights on market trends in countries and metropolitan areas.

The source of data is locations in your applicant tracking system (ATS). This can actually come from several sources depending on how your ATS is configured, such as:

  • Office location on the job posting

  • Candidate location in the application

  • Currency in the offer details

Most locations in the ATS are either unstructured data like an office name, or a specific location like a candidate’s address. Compa Offers uses auto-detect technology to convert this data into relevant country and metropolitan area location data.

Mountain View Office → SF Bay Area

1 N Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60602 → Chicago

This makes it possible to compare locations across companies around the world.

Skills

A powerful feature in Compa is skills-based market data. Because Compa is powered by offer data from the applicant tracking system (ATS) connected via API, we can detect skills from the job description.

Skills matching is 100% automatic. Compa reads the job description sourced from the ATS and, in partnership with a skills technology vendor, identifies and extracts skills for every offer.

Using this methodology, Compa can “price” market skills in real-time.

Company

Compa provides offer intelligence for candidate source companies. This feature is only available for internal offer reporting, and reflects offer insights for companies your organization sources talent from. Your individual offer data is not identifiable or visible to any other Compa Offers customer.

The source of data is current company captured in the applicant tracking system (ATS) on the candidate application. This is typically entered by either the candidate or the recruiter/sourcer.

Compa auto-detects company names to correct recruiter data entry mistakes and align related company names.

Gooogle → Google

Sutter Lakeside Hospital → Sutter Health

This makes it possible to get automatic internal offer insights about competitors.
